Lavender is a plant that can be found throughout the world. It has a light purple color to it and this color is called Lavender as well. We can see Lavender in gardens as they are very popular among gardeners. The dried leaves can be used as a scent and sometimes put into clothes to prevent damage from moths. Its flower and oil can also be used medicinally. One example of this is how its oil was used to prevent infection during World War I. During those times, hospitals used the oil to disinfect walls and floors. Today, the most common uses for Lavender are to treat headaches, ease anxiety, and as an aromatherapy.

Lavender has been used for centuries as a calming agent, The coumarin compounds found in it can dilate blood vessels, which is why it is used to treat headaches. One way to do this is to put 3 drops of the essential oil in 3 cups of boiling water, and then lean over to inhale the steam. Some people also put drops of the oil directly to their temples or base of the neck for relief.  Anxiety affects about 40 million adults, its symptoms are the feeling of fear and uncertainty, especially in stressful situations. Anxiety is an ongoing condition that can last 6 months or more. One way to treat it is with aromatherapy, which is an alternative medicine that uses essential oils and their aromas to alter a persons mind, mood and health. Essential oil from Lavender is used to reduce anxiety and even stress, insomnia and depression. One study has identified its therapeutic value in mental relaxation.

Some people have reported allergic reactions when inhaling or absorbing Lavender. It can be toxic when the oil is taken internally however it is available in a specially prepared tea. Other symptoms include vomiting, chills, nausea and headaches. Pregnant and breastfeeding women are advised to avoid using Lavender.
